Worth visiting!

both of my parents were stationed at offutt air force base when i was born at ehrling birquist hospital in 1984, so we naturally lived in bellevue, which is offutt’s orbit town. we lived initially in older bellevue in a trailer park off of washington ave., and then moved to an old farm hosue at 311 payne avenue, a couple of blocks up from avery elementary school, where i attended until i was 11 and my mum got stationed in california. i remember my bad ass backyard, and my cats, and bicycling down the hill, fontenelle forest, hayworth park at the river and the bridge into iowa, the chinese food place at the mall, the old country buffet, the library, dairy queen. all sorts of stuff. i rememember the military hospital most cause my mom would take us there if we stubbed our toes, but it was always pretty interesting. woo.

Worth visiting!

...we were driving cross country and stayed here overnight. This used to be my DH’s old stomping grounds while he was in highschool. We just drove around and looked at his old house and high school. Looked liked nice smalltown living. I’d like to go and explore the area more when I have more time.

Offutt AFB  — 2 years ago

Worth visiting!

When my father was stationed at Offutt AFB, we often heard the joke, “once you get on it, you never get Offutt.” Very true! At times we felt trapped in NE, but it has great schools and a wonderful small-town feel with neighboring Omaha for the “big-city” stuff
