Why I want to go to this place

We talked about Villa El Salvador a couple times in one of my international development studies classes. It just amazes me that a community built, essentially, on hopes and sand, has become such a model for solidarity and participatory community building, and equality. I would love to meet and learn from the people here.

35 years ago, a large group of squatters landed in an empty desert near Lima. Now Villa El Salvador has one of the highest literacy rates in Peru and has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.
