Worth visiting!
Why I recommend this place to visitors
I grew up in a small township just outside the town itself. Most people I talk to assume that “all” of New Jersey is cities, pollution, dumps, et cetera, et cetera. Definitely give Northwestern Jersey a look. It has mountains, hills, forests, miles and miles of fields of farms – LITTLE family farms! Did you know NJ is one of the only, if not THE only state that has farm animal cruelty prevention laws in place? It’s no wonder the food from the local markets tastes so great! As you drive into Newton along the roads in you’ll see booths set up with local farmers selling vegetables. I highly recommend the tomatoes as the best I have ever had, anywhere. The town itself is extremely quaint, although in recent years it has been modernizing, picking up a couple of chain stores like Lowe’s and Wal-mart, it is still one of the few towns I’ve been to where you can walk down the main streets and feel like you’ve gone back in time 50 years, to a small theatre and mom and pop shops and boutiques lining Spring Street. Only about an hour (?) from NYC, it’s worth the drive for anyone who wants a break from the city or the “busier” parts of NJ to take a break, relax in the country, take a trail ride on a horse, take in the scenery, and learn to breathe again.
