I travelled around east kalimantan for 2 months in 1995 by cranberrygoddess
It doesn’t surprise me about the 4x thing (see entry below). When you flew over it from the top that’s the impression that I got. I have also been to the amazon, and I thought that the rainforest in Kalimantan was being logged even faster than the amazon.
I didn’t really see orang utans in the wild, but I saw them in a refuge/sanctuary where they rehabilitate them to reintroduce them to the wild.
I did see little red monkeys in the trees along the river though.
