Hakodate

I only had an afternoon/evening to spend in Hakodate on my way north, so I didn’t get to see that much. I’ve heard the market on the harbour is wonderful, if you arrive early enough, unfortunately I missed it. I’d love to spend more time in Hakodate. The crab I had for lunch was amazing!

An interesting, sleepy little town with a lot of foreign history – there’s a Russian Orthodox Church, a Catholic Church and an Episcopal Church there, looking forlorn and rather unused now that it’s not packed with foreign merchants.

If you’re there in winter, try to get there just in time for the snow sculpture festival they have. The people there are very pleasant and friendly, and it’s really easy to see the whole town just by riding on buses and trams.

I read once that the seadfood there may be good. Anyone tried?
