Medicine Wheel

High on a ridge of Medicine Mountain in Wyoming’s Big Horn Range, ancient Native Americans built a circular, spoke-like arrangement of stones. Its purpose is a mystery. It still serves as a sacred ceremonial site.
Many offerings are left and prayers made on this mountain. Among the many Crow (a Native American tribe) legends about the site, it is said that Medicine Wheel was built “before the light came”. “Little people” are believed to live near and guard the Wheel.
Be prepared to walk quite a distance uphill to the site. No cars allowed. There are no facilities of any kind at the site. Check to make sure there are no ceremonials being conducted at the time you wish to go so that you don’t intrude.
It is a Native American holy site. Please visit with respect.
