Luang Namtha

Highest number of ethnic diverse groups in Laos in this province.

It is changimg very rapidly, due to new road, new airport (soon), and introduction of electricity in 2003.

I have been involved since 2002 doing documentary photography in this province, trying to capture the traditional culture of the old villages before and during the changes.

Beautiful province, some areas have been better preserved than others. This province has been subject of a 5 years sustainable development project. It’s now used as an example in terms of development for the country. i don’t agree with this…

Most tribes that can be found there have been moved from their former place and they find themselves in a more difficult position.

One positive thing is The Boat Landing in Luang Namtha, if you go there, don’t miss this place which benefits the locals.
