My father was born on this little island. We went there every summer when I grew up. I did love the fishing and crabbing. I did not love the mosquitoes! Deal Island is small and like stepping back in time. Changes continue to come to this tiny place on Tangier Sound. Sadly, fishing and crabbing are not what they were. The last time I went to this place was with my father to visit the graveyard where my grandfather, grandmother and other relatives are buried. The day was warm and as we were walking around the cemetary, up walked my Aunt Lottie Shores and my dad’s cousin Elwood Webster. Totally unplanned, totally like Deal Island.

In Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay side of Maryland’s Eastern Shore is a paradise. Skipjacks(beautiful boats with a clipper bow) and white sails. Joshua Thomas,the famous parson of the Islands lived here and predicted the British defeat in the war of 1812. A chapel named after him is also there…
