Piece Hall

At a Trade Union meeting in Yorkshire one woman asked whether the Peace Hall in Halifax would be a good venue for a future meeting. She was surprised to be told that it would be OK if the weather was fine!
It is called the Piece Hall because prior to the industrial revolution, when textiles were subject to the Domestic System, this was where local manufacturers brought pieces [samples of their cloths] to be exhibited to potential customers.
