A review of this place  — 9 months ago

This place was okay, but there are far better bars in Seattle. The service was slow and flagging down waiters was difficult. My friend’s food was served long after everyone else was done (to be fair, the menu did warn us that what she ordered would take 45 minutes, but we all ordered around the same time and her food came long after our food which took about half an hour even though it was just sandwiches). It wasn’t the worst place I’ve ever been, but I don’t feel compelled to go back.

A.k.a. The Five Oh  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

The night Susan and I met we ended up here, dancing to James Brown on the jukebox with a couple of friends. Back then it was a dive called “The Five Oh” because the street address was 50-something but the something had fallen off and was never replaced.

I think it became the Hopvine in 1995. We hung out here a lot when we lived just around the corner. Nice little pub that’s stood the test of time. And they have live music. I saw Pearl Django here once.

A bit non-descript, but a comfortable enough neighborhood pub. It looked like they only had Pacific Northwest brews. They have a variety of salads, soups, sandwiches, pizzas… the usual pub food. The food was reasonable, although I found their nachos to be pretty lame.

Food service is definitely on the slow side, probably because they have a very small kitchen. They warn you about possible slow service, however, and I appreciate such full disclosure.

Tonight something bad happened to our pizza… one slice looked very mutant-like and sad. They offered to make us another one, but it was fine with us. Not like they dropped it on the floor or sneezed on it or whatever. Later they offered to buy me and my compatriots a round of drinks, but we were too full for more beer. They knocked down our bill instead. It was really quite nice of them, especially since we ourselves didn’t really find anything wrong.
