Shinjuku Gyoen

It’s one of the only places in eastern Tokyo you can actually see some decent greenery. Coming from Oregon I sort of missed trees sometimes so this place was great. Go there! (There’s a small admission fee.)

I tend to favor more naturalistic parks but this one still ranks among the best metro parks in the world.

Once within this park’s walls, It’s easy to forget that you’re right in the hustle and bustle of Shinjuku. Sit at the edge of the pond, and you can see the skyscrapers peaking out over the trees. Go on a day that’s free. Usually there’s a few hundred yen admission fee.
