Wonderful place for a family by frscottgh
Alabaster, several miles south of Birmingham, is a wonderful place to raise a family. It has a low crime rate, good city services, responsive government, nice parks, convenient stores, lots of churches, etc. It is surrounded by other great small cities, Pelham, Helena and Montevallo. The American Village, sort of “Williamsburg brought to Alabama” is an excellent living history park/museum just south of town.

Alabaster is a name applied to varieties of two distinct minerals: gypsum (a hydrous sulfate of calcium) and calcite (a carbonate of calcium). The former is the alabaster of the present day; the latter is generally the alabaster of the ancients.
