Torre Tavira and its Camera Obscura

Cádiz old town was once populated with around 200 watchtowers, seeing over the bay and out to sea. Torre Tavira was part of the palace of the Marquis of Recano, for whom Antonio Tavira worked as watchman. At that time, late C18th, it was designated the official watchtower for the town, being the highest lookout point in the area.
The Camera Obscura, a device which basically displays a giant, real-time image (i.e. live, optical movie: ) ,was installed in 1994 in the top (room) of the tower by Sinden Optical Company Ltd who are also providing the linked image above.
There is another camera obscura in nearby Jerez de la Frontera, and another should be operational in Sevilla in 2006.
