Ladies' Market aka: 女人街

I picked up a nice embroidered silk top, some tops for my mum, a tea cup (with the included strainer for individual cups of leaf tea) with a rooster on it for my dad, some of those happy cat mobile phone trinkets for my friends, some jade bracelets, a wallet to replace my broken one. That’s the kind of thing you expect here.

Tons of knock-offs awaiting! As with all knock-offs, buy on the basis of quality. The chopstick sets make really nice souvenirs. Anyway, the point of this place is the excellent atmosphere. If you really start bargaining with a stall holder for an item, be prepared to buy it otherwise they can get touchy (literally). Experience not to be missed. I also recommend Flower Market which is not as well known, but has some good stuff that can’t be found in Ladies Market.

tons of knock offs, and not to mention the chinese are very very agressive. Our first night we arrived, we went to the ladies market. It got very annoying. They are very aggressive. I had them put thier hands all over me, pulling me in every direction in order to persuay you to buy thier junk. If you see something you want, don’t give them the asking price. Lowball and they will definatly give you what you are willing to pay. Watch out of the knock off sunglasses and watches. I bought five and they all broke within the first month.

The stuff here is undoubtly cheap anmd you may buy more than u actually need. Many things are not colour fast…so becareful how you wah the items. Best bets are panties and pantyhose. Worst things are the “bullet like” bras and the tons of padding they put into those bras! Beware also of pick pockets!
