Nichollstown by bob39157
I’ve been here a few times. It’s a small town, but it’s the capitol, I think. Bahamas Coconut Farm is the only place to stay in Nichollstown unless you live there, or ask Shelly to make her brother give up his bungalow for a few days. She used to own the other hotel, Dayshelle’s, until some drunken American guest burnt it down about 5 or 6 years ago. She still runs the restaurant that was attached to the hotel. She only makes barracuda soup on Sunday. You also have to get some conch salad from Sly Fox. He runs one of the few beach side pavillions. The conch fishermen pull right up on the beach with their catch a few times a day. When he runs out, they go get some more. Across the street is Big Shop. They serve alcohol, but if you don’t bring your own cup, you can only get the bottled beer. Kalik beer. If you didn’t bring any glassware with you, use a soup can like everyone else. You can buy food at one of a handful of small stores in town. If you stay at coconut farms, borrow a bicycle and ride to Morgan’s Bluff. If you get there around the 10th of July, there will be a large independance day celebration at Morgan’s bluff. This is usually when they hold the All Andros and Berry Island Regatta. They race right off the beach at Morgan’s bluff. It’s a big deal and people come from all over the islands. The most amazing thing about this place is that there are no other tourists. Everyone either lives on the islands or grew up there and come back for vacation. We came across one woman from europe the first time we went, and a few guys sailed in for dinner at Sly’s during our second stay. If you’re looking for a touristy place, or are not comfortable going off the beaten track, then this place is not for you.
