Folsom

I have to agree with karengaia that there are some very nice hiking trails along the Sacremento river that I have hiked. Also the historic district has some very interesting landmarks like the Depot, Power Plant, and many antique shops. I didn’t visit the prison, but maybe I will on another trip. If you are visiting Sacremento, it’s worth the drive to check it out.

Folsom has a very pleasant historic district with restaurants, antique shops, frequent events and is a good night spot.

There are two lakes within 10 miles, one within walking distance of the historic district. Both lakes have plenty of recreational opportunities. Great place for kayaking, hiking, water skiing, picnicking.

Folsom has numerous bike trails, some along the river, some along creeks. Folsom also has many greenbelts.

There is also a 4th of July rodeo, a community center, a new library, and a very nice senior center.

There is also a zoo, a museum, the prison museum.

Folsom is also reachable by light rail from Sacramento. There is also plenty of shopping.

The bad news: traffic.

My brother Tim lived here for a time (he was transferred there by Intel), and I visited him there in the mid 90’s. He has since moved back to Phoenix, so I doubt I’ll ever see Folsom again.

One time I took a “tour” of the Folsom Prison and it was pretty neat. That’s about it.

The only reason I go to Folsom is to visit a friend who lives there. There’s a lake there, but it’s nothing special enough to make this a destination.
