Kiawah Island

we had very good luck finding seashells, and sea critters too. Here is my pic of a horshoe crab that was strolling along at low tide. We found tons of conches, some crabs at night, we saw alligators in the pond, lizards in the bushes and oh yeah, lots of spiders. Gold Silk spiders, I believe. That might creep some people out, but my daughter thought it was awesome.

It is gorgeous. Because it is a private island, the beaches are very clean, peaceful, NOT CROWDED! Charleston is close enough for a day trip for shopping or museums. On the island, mostly we beached, rode bikes. But if you are a golfer it is perfect. My only complaint at all, is that it is so pricey. But it’s a PRIVATE island for Pete’s sake!

Am set to take a vacation here in June. Can’t wait!

It’s beautiful, calm and serene. Definitely a family vacation spot. I would warn teenage girls to be cautious if they’re partying on the beach, I’ve been going here every summer for the past seventeen years and as far as I know there has been at least one date rape every summer on the beach from girls drinking waay too much. If you love to bike the bike trails are amazing, the shopping is cute, and the new Catholic Church right off the island is beautiful. The tennis and golf are both amazing. The waves aren’t too great but if it’s a year of hurricanes you’ll get some 8 footers.

One time we stayed at the snooty beach a few minutes after 6:00. When we got back to our car, the gate had been locked. Luckily we were able to go in the woods around the gate, but then there was another gate. This one looked impossible to get around. Finally we found a little opening in the woods and we drove through screaming into somebody’s back yard. We drove under their carport and out onto the street. It was the funniest thing ever. Then we calmly drove out of the private resort.
