There is no place like it….

I visited here specifically to see St. Brighid’s church. It was lovely, but a bit neglected (which made me sad). The shrine and underground stream nearby were lovely, as well. I’d love to come back here again someday.

Oh, my goodness. This was by far the most amazing restoration/update of a Cathedral. Not only did it mix the old and new masterfully, but they were very careful to not discount the connection between Saint Brigidt and the Celtic Goddess Brigidt. They focused heavily on the things they were both known for: a fondness of children and animals, a gift of healing, and the strange juxtaposition between fire and water. The shrine (by a sacred well) is a short walk or drive, and shouldn’t be missed.
