Puerto Plata

North part of the island is great. I came here for my 18th birthday, and wow did i party! Dominican republic knows how to get down. Its a beautiful country, with plenty of entertainment.

The beaches are beautiful, the locals are kind and very friendly. I stayed in a small community about 45 minutes outside Puerto Plata and not at an all inclusive resort. I enjoy experiencing the culture of a place and an all inclusive resort just doesn’t do it for me.
The Green Mountain Tour will take you to a series of waterfalls within a canyon. If you hire a water guide he will help you swim/pull you up 7 falls, which you will then use as waterslides to get back to the original lagoon! The water may be cold but the experience is well worth the discomfort. I highly reccomend going to the Dominican. I have been 4 times and intend to return many more.

i was in love!! the dominican is a beautyful country, an the small delicate resorts such as Puerto Plata are amazin!! definately go back, may even buy a holiday home there?!

I loved it here people were great and the all inclusive ruled!!! get your drink on!!!

I spent a week at a resort here. Beautiful, but the poverty will shock all spoiled Americans. I had 45 sunscreen on, and lounged under the shade of a palm tree. However, I still managed to get such severe burns that I no longer grow hair on the front of my legs. Plan on taking some medicine just in case you eat or drink something that will cause you to get dysentery. It is not pretty, but thank the Lord the in laws are doctors. They made me pack some meds, and it saved me when I was hit hard one night. :~) I would still go back again.

Wasa year or so ago.

I just got back from here, spent my March Break with 38 of my close friends. 1 week all inclusive for $1000CDN… Amazing place, resort was good, went dune buggying around the island, snorkling, diving, the list goes on, great friendly helpful staff, great views, beach, loved it!

Excellent value for money, with some good resorts and some bad. Just do some research on other forums before you book.

Beach was great, pools at resorts were of mixed quality, but overall good value. Give it 5 years, americans move in and the resorts in their current state will change.
