Topsail Beach

We went in late May. It was super private, perfect weather, friendly people, a great vacation. It was kind of like a secret place. Hardly anyone at all on the beach. Totally spoiled us and ruined all other beaches for us, but then we discovered Emerald Isle and it turned out to be the same for us. Highly recommend both, but only before tourist season – before mid June.

This is the beach, and absolutely nothing else. I like it that way, personally—it’s beautiful, not crowded, relaxing. But if you’re into beaches with shopping and so forth, it’s probably not for you.

This place was very odd. My boyfriend and I rented a house out here. The residents seem to be either very wealthy and living in big, beautiful beach houses, or the opposite and living in trailers. (Weirdly, there’s a fence around the ‘trailer park’ area.) Truth be told, the beach was nice. The island was not – apparently in recent years the real estate market in the area has really gone downhill, and so have all the shops and such. I recommend finding a different beach.

Topsail is one of my favorite getaway spots. I’ve been going there with my family for about ten years. It’s a very quiet place, great for getting away and relaxing – but as far as entertainment goes you’ve got to make your own. I think the main reason I like it is simply because it’s so quiet, it feels like a second home to me.
