I grew up here. — 2 years ago
Worth visiting!
Despite a rather middle-class upbringing, I moved here from Santa Monica when I was very young into a house bought long ago, before the place became prime property. (For better or worse, Proposition 13—the property tax cap initiative that passed in 1978—saved my family from the harder times, albeit at the expense of a lot of potential state growth, but Prop 13 should be it’s own California question, if not already. It’s still quite a political argument of contention in this state.)
It’s very safe, quiet, and pretty here. The beaches are great. It is very suburban—mostly boring—Hollywood couldn’t even succeed in making a tawdry prime-time drama based on this place.. that’s how boring the Palisades is. The central part is rustic in a not-so-rustic way. It feels old, but doesn’t look old. But, it is a great endpoint for Sunset Blvd.
It’s nice to come back home to see family here, nonetheless.
Also, Pacific Palisades High School is forever immortalized by L.A./South Bay punk legends Black Flag in the video “Slip It In”—featuring only the most wholesome women showing off their, um, wholesomeness in the video. Cheers!
