Although there are some dumpy towns in the Catskills, there are many more quaint, thriving towns with some of the most spectacular natural beauty to be found in the Northeast. Although, I admit I am a little biased. over 5 years agoCairo by cbroMy grandparents have owned a home in Cairo since my mother was a child. I have spent countless summer and ski trips in the mountains. My fondest memories include the Catskill Game Farm and Carson City, a cowboys-and-Indians themed park, which has sadly closed. I’m fascinated by the old motels and roadside attractions of the Catskill area. Geometric designs and dilapidated resorts, shabby diners and abandoned homes and businesses are so intriguing. I can see why the Catskill summers were a yuppie favorite, but it’s amazing to see the once popular getaways as they are now. |
