A tip I have about this place  — 8 months ago

I used to live in New Orleans. “Mardi Gras” is the last Tuesday, the last day. The whole 2 weeks of festivities is called “Carnival”.

I used to love getting dressed up for this when I was a kid, it was like a second halloween.

I went to Mardi Gras 2006 right after Katrina. The city was still a little down in the dumps but I had a blast! The parades were great and the hospitality was endless. It was great to see that the city was trying to get as back to normal as possible.

Lots of beads  — 1 year ago

Worth visiting!

We had so much fun, it was like being a kid at Christmas. Even better cause it went on for days. We went to 4 parades and that was enough. I had to ship 2 boxes home of beads, cups, mugs, footballs, frisbees, stuffed animals and more beads. Everyone should do this at least once.
Hopefully the city made out well, they need the help. We did our part and spent alot of yankee cash. We went to the aquarium, Global Wildlife and some really good restaurants.

Mardi gras the right way  — 1 year ago

Worth visiting!

I have been to Mardi Gras every year since 1985 and loved every single year. I will tell you though the best Mardi Gras you could ever have is to ride on one of the floats in any parade. It is possible but very expensive. It will cost you anywhere from $1000.00 to over $10K for a single ride. You might be able to ride on a float for a little less but it is safe to say it won’t be too cheap. The cheapest way to ride would be the trucks parade on Mardi Gras Day. They are more homemade floats that are put on by groups of people and you may find a spot on one but you have to be asked. It is not just open to the public. It is an expierence you must have in a lifetime.

Not for the faint of heart  — 2 years ago

Worth visiting!

I knew I was going to be filming in the cemetary at the end of the trip, so my eyes were downcast most of the time!

I think about going to grad school for film in the Big Easy, especially with rebuilding from Hurricane Katrina, the French flavor and the fact that any school loans would help out the local economy.
