Tyneside Cinema

I use to go here all the time when I studied in Sunderland five years ago. Last month I was back in England and this was on my list of places to go. Unfortunately, they were closed for remodeling, so I guess I’m giving up on this since I don’t plan to visit England again, probably ever. So many places, so little time!

The Tyneside Cinema is closed until 2008 for renovation. It has moved to a temporary location at Gateshead Old Town Hall and upcoming films can be found on its website.

The Tyneside has got atmosphere. Went to see “Fargo” there, it was a double-function, probably together with “The Big Lebowski”. Just great. Very beautiful inside.

There was a great cafe upstairs (still there I hope, I know there’s a cafe downstairs as well now).

Saw Casablanca there (back in the 80s) and the audience applauded at the end.

Saw Betty Blue, Fanny and Alexander, Diva, loads of great european cinema.
