McLean Hospital History and Architecture by Purple12362
Belmont, Mass is home to McLean Hospital. A mental health facility that at one time or another housed so very famous patients including Silvia Plath and James Taylor (who wrote the song “Fire and Rain” within it’s walls). The huge grassy campus is scattered with trees and buildings. Many of these old buildings have been abandoned and closed off due to lack of use, but their historic beauty still remains and with each building their stories as well. One of my favorite buildings is the old sleep lab. Made almost entirely out of concrete, it’s one of the most modern style buldings I have ever seen or been in before. Today this bizarre bulding is locked up and it’s indoor maze of twisting hallways ending in false doors.
