Worth visiting!

My opinion of the Sofitel is 100% clouded by the fact that my stay there was 100% expenses-paid. In fact, I have no idea how much the drinks cost at the Bay Bar because my boss always picked up the tab. I do know that the drinks were very good and served with a nice selection of olives and crackers. The decor of the bar, restaurant (also very good), and lobby is decidedly modern, and it all looks really good. But the furnishings proved uncomfortable. Luckily, free wifi covered the area to satisfy us geeks and the waitresses wore low-cut dresses and spoke with French accents.

My room was really nice, of course. A comfy king-size bed, plenty of closet and drawer space, chair and sofa, broadband ($10/day), and a nice view from the 8th floor.

The service throughout the hotel was exceptional.

There was one problem. It’s located in Redwood City (Redwood Shores, more precisely) and you have to drive everywhere you want to go. You could walk to Oracle HQ or EA HQ but no one does. I didn’t see a single person walking anywhere. The car is king.

If you’re on a business trip in Silicon Valley, you could do a lot worse than the Sofitel.
