Elounda

I had forgotten I went here!
This place is awesome! That little island was a leper colony back in the day, and you can see abandoned structures on it from shore. It’s just a tiny bump of land. I guess it was the perfect place to isolate a diseased community – just far enough out, but close enough, they could just paddle in for supplies.
A very windswept, abandoned and lovely place.

Stayed in Aghios Nicolas, but visited Elounda.It is a beautiful place.

Fantastic wee town with a natural harbour with the island of Spinalonga at the mouth of the bay. The island is famous for the old leper colony but is now a tourist spot. Elounda itself is a vibrant village whre you are welcome day and night. The tavernas and restaurants are second to none and the food is excellent.
