These beasts are horrible!
A piece of advice. Don’t go to the monkey forest after shopping for anything at all. We’d been warned that you need to bring some food along to keep the monkeys at bay, but they didn’t wait for handouts. They came up to us and started grabbing our bags and ripping them with their sharp claws, spilling our “ball guys” on the ground. I gathered up the wooden statues and started throwing the remaining food as far away from me as I could and we made our escape.

Playful primates pick-pocket peanuts
The monkeys are so damn cute!!! and in beautiful forest (I vaguely remember being told it is one of the only remnants of jungle left in Bali), with intricate carvings like the rest of bali, but they look cool because they are overgrown.
yes you have to be careful not to have food in your pockets because they will know it!
I put a story in my ubud entry on this place… It went a little something like this…
‘I recall in 1993 going to the monkey forest, where we met a guy who took us to his house to meet his family and have sweet tea. We walk home via some convoluted trail that seemed to take all day, the reason we were given was that spirits move in straight lines so that by walking all over the place we would put them off course.’
