Whether Huatulco is worth visiting depends on what you’re looking for. For me, Huatulco was borderline, but I gave it the nod. The bays are clean and beautiful. It was quite a lot of fun to ride around on a jet ski and watch the water crash against the rocks. Pelicans and other sea birds provide good company. The hotels are very nice, and the whole “National Park” has a resort feel. The problem with Huatulco is it is culturally vacuous and boring as hell. I would have rather spent more time in Oaxaca. Probably, in retrospect, I would have foregone the loveliness of Huatulco for something more culturally interesting had I known that Huatulco has such a plastic feel.

I have went to Huatulco two times in my life, the last time maybe 8 years ago. I loved the all inclusive hotel jaja… no, seriously, Huatulco has some of wildness and some of kindness… I took a motorcycle tour to the virgin beaches (8 in total), and it was one of the most amazing experiences in my life… nice tourist spot.

Nice by the water, cool accomodations by JRai

A very new city, seemingly built around it’s nice beach marketplace. Modern buildings, heritage style though.

It was worth visiting as of 9 years ago, but I’m guessing it’s gotten a bit more developed since then.

Stay on the beach by Aielman

The beach is really nice. Sure it’s small, but it’s not crowded. You can rent a two person jet ski (the sit down kind) for $30 per half hour, which is plenty of time. You have a lot of room to have fun with that in the bay and you can go way out and jump the swells. Lots of shops, as usual, but expensive.
