Borobudur

It is one of the magical site I’ve ever seen…but too bad the government don’t put extra attention to maintain it! :(

We were staying in Yoygyakarta at the time and set the alarm for a really early morning – the plan was to catch the sunrise at Borobodur. We took a cab and arrived at the temple around six in the morning. It was very peaceful and quite, no other people was there but the three of us (me Göran and Eva). For almost two hours we had the whole of Borobudur all to ourselves. We wandered around the temple amazed by the detailed reliefs and stupas while the sun cleared the misty air. Shortly after eight o’clock someone came to sell us the entrance tickets and after a while other visitors started dropping in. We went for a cup of tea at the nearby warung and then back home to Yogya.

Just beautiful! Despite the hoards of tourists. This place was buried by jungle for quite some time before it was rediscovered. It is a remnant of Buddhism in Java.

One of the few places in the world worth getting up in time for sunrise to see.
