...when you’re standing under it. I didn’t go up to the top – it’s fairly expensive and I figure once you’ve seen Paris from one tall structure, you don’t really need to see it again. The glass elevator would have been cool though. La Défense is the Wall Street of Paris and there’s not much else to see, so this probably wouldn’t be my first port of call if I was visiting Paris for the first time.

This arc stands in a direct line with the Arc de Triomphe, so you can see the one when you stand on the top of the other one. When we visited they were setting up an exhibition of Asian photographs, very interesting, too bad we couldn’t visit when finished.

One warning though: the elevator to ride to the top is made out of glass – including the bottom. I had to ride with my eyes closed and my hand clutched around my boyfriend’s…
