Thermopolis

We went to the Wyoming Dinosaur Center, Hot Springs State Park, and wandered around downtown. This was supposed to be the halfway point rest stop on our transcontinental journey and I had a great time. I would stay longer, but I’ve got to keep movin’ on.

Thermopolis is an OLD town and it shows but it has 3 things that make it stand out.

1. Hot springs.
2. A world class Dinosaur Museum.
3. A great chunk of white water.

Don’t expenct anything new or fancy.

Take a white water trip, put mom in the hot springs and take the kids to the dino museum. Good for about 2 days worth of distraction.

It’s pretty run down. And it does not have the world’s largest hot srpings, that is a total lie!

My tip…go to the Hot Spring pools early in the morning (9AM) before the kids show up if you want to relax. The pools are expensive, but so worth it. Take a walk around the Hot Springs Terraces and a drive through the Buffalo pasture. If you want to see a real ghost town drive 12 miles north, turn left on Sand Draw Rd and take the Y when you get to it, to the left. And…go south of Thermopolis to see Wind River Canyon. Beautiful. Petroglyphs are west of town. WE also have abundant wildlife, open spaces, the river, hot springs, blue clean sky and only one traffic light. Here’s a photo of the ghost town of Gebo.
