saw Joe Ely tonight by RP
and had my picture taken with him, which unfortunately may not really have come out. It was so crowded that I really just got to hear the end of the show, but I did enjoy what I heard.
There were only two pieces – Joe and Joel, the accordionist, who was awesome. A great big sound, in spite of the small personnel.
After the show I was encouraged/led to get my picture taken with the headliner, something I don’t do much because I tend to hang back in the face of celebrity. Like a fool, I left the camera on landscape (since I also took pictures of the stage) and got the picture that results above. You can tell who the people are, but that is about it. It was fun to meet him, and he is a very genial guy.
Shady Grove itself has some good food; I had a “chicken-fried chicken sandwich” which was very very large. Not popcorn fried chicken, but a little more breaded style. I think it got the best of me, though, and I didn’t finish it.
Shady Grove is conveniently close to Barton Springs if it is a hot night.
