Summary of Beckermet

Beckermet in rural West Cumbria, in the far North West of England.

Beckermet is bounded by the small town of St. Bees to the north – home to the start of the coast-to-coast cycle path, to the south by Gosforth, to the west is the Irish Sea and the Western Fells and lakes to the east.

The non estate agents among us may prefer “Stuck between Sellafield and Egremont”. Sellafield is famous for being Sellafield, and Egremont is famous for the following joke.

Prince Charles comes to Egremont for the state opening of a new chip shop. He is seen to be wearing a Davy Crockett hat complete with a furry tail. When asked why, he said his mother advised him to. When he told her he was coming to Egremont, she said ‘Egremont? Wear the fox hat.’ so he did.
