Antietam National Battlefield

I love it there

This park is gigantic. There are a million roads and a zillion monuments. I got there at six AM and there was no one else there yet. So if you want to go when there is no one else, go at that time.

There is some watch tower type thing that is cool to climb up and look down over the whole park. I’m not sure what it was used for. I had stopped reading all the monuments. But it really looks cool.

Also, if you see the family cemetery in the middle of the park, there is one big tree inside it. It’s very pretty. So look for that.

Local middle schools make an 8th grade field trip out of Antietam every year. And every year they turn one more generation of kids into Antietam-Battlefield-haters.

worth the drive and the twists and turns in the road! :o) mom and i were headed down us340 and saw a sign for antietam national battlefield. we thought about it for a second (literally) and turned off the highway for explore this small corner of maryland. it was definitely worth the trip…i knew so little about the battle and learned so much in an hour!!
