Philmont Scout Ranch
Beautiful outdoors and a great learning experience. I did my first 50-mile hike there in 1967. We were taught survival camping and cooking skills. Met some great kids from other parts of the country. Yes, there are wild bears and they do like toothpaste!

Yes, I went to Philmont
We didn’t get to spend much time in the actual town of Cimarron, but the two week expedition into the wilderness (we took the Baldy course) was one of the best trips of my life. There’s something about being out in nature, with no cell phones, no computers, no tv and (although it seems horrific now) no internet was great.
I definitely recommend the New Mexican wilderness to anyone who enjoys camping and backpacking.
