Western Bridge

Heard about this gallery from a few different people over the last couple months. Presumably related to the Henry Art Gallery in some way. Rumors of great openings. Deviled quail eggs!

Went to the opening of “Crash. Pause. Rewind.” last night and was immediately delighted by the building itself. Very modern, with concrete and wood and sort of a warehouse feel. A crane rested in the corner of the main space, above the appetizer bar with tiny Chinese take-out boxes filled with a selection of shrimp, spring rolls, and a meatball salad.

The show itself was also awesome. A collection of different artists with delightful coincidences between them… for example, the Unamomber’s cabin featured in work by 4 separate artists. Things were often crashing and exploding into each other.

Sneaking around, we found a bedroom where artists are I guess allowed to stay when visiting? I wanted to take a nap. And they have a great living room upstairs that had wonderful etching things by an artist I hadn’t heard of before but immediately fell in love with: Tacita Dean, and her Russian Ending series of photogravures combined with barely legible etching. A beached whale was in one and it said something like “her last toothless smile”.

If only there were a special transport pod that could take me there every day. It’s a little far away.
