Richmond International Airport aka: RIC, Byrd Airport

I had a meeting outside of Richmond and flew into the airport there. I’ll be back there again next week for another meeting. Hopefully I can see a few things while I’m out there this time.

Construction is progressing, and the new upper level check-in counters are now open. We had a flight out of Richmond last Friday and were told that it was the first day it was open. It seemed like the airline personnel were still getting used to the new location and systems. Baggage claim has been shifted downstairs to its new permanent location, and so have the rental car counters.

This airport still isn’t cheap, but the arrival of JetBlue has forced down some fares. Construction is still under way, but the end may be in sight, and some improvements are already in place.

I can’t wait until the construction/renovation is complete. It should be much better once that is finished.
The worst thing about this airport is the outrageous fares charged by most carriers.
