Barbacoa

i really enjoyed barbacoa, with it’s tiny dining room & huge dishes (the catfish was a favorite).

alas, it is no more.

in it’s place is a new french bistro called “portage” that is getting good reviews. i’m hoping to go there soon.

Great food. Definitely try the mojito.

I’ve been frequenting this place over the last year, as I live within walking distance…...I love it, probably more for the atmosphere than anything else (and the selection of Mexican beer!). Although the menu has some must eats that are delicious! The simpler the item, the better it tastes. If you go there, keep that in mind.

Complete with sugar cane, mint leaves and a fat slice of citrus, the mint julep was as authentic and delicious as any in recent memory. The rest of my meal was good … but not great. However, my friend Whitney’s catfish was excellent. I’ll definitely go back again to order other items off the menu. Barbacoa wins on the quaint hole-in-the-wall front, too.
