Heart of Screenland... by sommerrayne

People have little recollection of what the greater Los Angeles area once was because their views have been clouded with smog, capitalism and greed.

Culver City is (and was) the heart of Screenland for over 7 decades. Here is the home of Sony Picture Studios (formerly, Columbia and better known MGM). The entire city surrounds it’s legacy in the film and motion picture industry. The streets are lined with everything from the smallest momento to grand statues praising the movies and films that have been produced from the loins of Culver City.

Wizard of Oz, Charlie Chaplin movies, Men in Black, Fun with Dick and Jane, the Family Stone and so many in between have been a product of this quite small town. It does not boast grand sky scrapers, nor does it have the pretentious aire about it – just a small town that has released jewels for all to enjoy and has also, unfortunately, lacked the credit it deserves.

Great television also came from this city. I Love Lucy was one of the most famous shows to be made here – Lucy and Desi owned a whole STUDIO here!

If you want to feel the spirits of days gone by and give credit where credit is due – Culver City, California should be on your destination list!

not a bad place by abaiss

I was born in Culver City. It’s not a bad place. Nothing really great about it though. If you’re ever passing through, make sure to stop off at Tito’s Tacos but be warned that it’s always busy because it’s that good.
