Oxford Street

Oxford Street is still a big shopping destination, though not as important as when I was little. These days lots of the shops can be found in out of town shopping centres, so there’s no need to go all the way into town. I mainly go to visit the big department stores, HMV or Borders.

There have been plans to pedestrianise the street because of the sheer number of shoppers and the never-ending buses. People are too impatient to wait for traffic lights and just walk out in front of traffic – lots of near misses.

...I spent an afternoon here prowling through the massive HMV store and spending a lot of cash on a lot of stuff. While these days I tend to track down the smaller specialty stores instead, I still wander about here from time to time with folks as we try and track down either the best ways to get to other stores or the best ways to get to pubs. Or both.

Avoid it! go to Floral St, Covent Garden or Knightsbridge. Too many tourists bumping into each other outside the cheap shops (except Selfridges where they’re all inside)
