The first time I went to this place  — 1 year ago

    Not worth it!

I’ve been here only once, but that time the music sucked big time. It was just the name says, emo.

How this place changed my life  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

Every show I’ve ever attended at Emo’s (which has consisted of Le Tigre, GravyTrain, Explosions in the Sky, Motion City Soundtrack, Of Montreal, Octopus Project, Deerhoof, Oh No! Oh My!, and so on) has been a life-changing experience. As a common show-goer, when the good bands are in town, I’ve been to some pretty disgusting venues with staff who could care less about the well-being of the audience. At Emo’s, it’s a completely different story. I’m always well taken care of, inside or out. Before, during, and after the show, the staff is always fully ready to jump in if they’re needed. No beverage is allowed outside the doors, all minors are stamped and all adults are watched for disrespectful drunken behavior.

    Very reasonable covers.

    The bathrooms are phenomenal.

    Shows always rule.

emo’s has some good music, but it’s a bit too cool for school—lots of people standing around being insecure about being cool enough but trying to look like they don’t care. lots of emo hair cuts. good place for sociological observation in between sets.

i put up with the scenesters and the bad bathrooms to hear the music, but many times it’s very obvious by their talking over the bands that people are only there because the buzz told them they were supposed to go and not because they really like the music.

so basically the music is what makes it at all a good venue, and even then there can be some very delusional bands.

    Not worth it!

I’ve been to Emo’s for a few shows and I hate it. It’s dirty, some shows are outside regardless of weather, and the place just gets so packed with sweaty, smoky people that it makes you sick. I’d have to like a band a hell of a lot to go back to Emo’s. I just can’t stand being crushed and having no oxygen like I used to be able to.

Consistently Excellent Live Music  — 3 years ago

    Worth visiting!

Currently my favorite venue for live music in Austin. They get quality indie and electronic music coming through on a regular basis.
