Gili Islands

It’s much much better than any Indonesian beach, no cars, no crowds of tourist, great snorkeling. In fact, if you want to see the fishes you don’t have to snorkel, just take a dip in the beach!

I stayed on Gili Air, and visited Meno briefly. This was one of the most breathtakingly gorgeous places I have ever been in my life.

It was very peaceful, quite, and laid-back. The food was included in the bungalow I stayed at, which was ok, but not great. Good snorkling though, and an overall very relaxing experience. Then again, all this was about 20 years ago, so things could’ve changed.

the most beautiful place I ever went to, and I intend to live in this very island forever… ..sigh…

I have been here for two weeks within a 5 month trip. It was truely wonderful! the atmosphere is really laidback, the people are friendly, the food is nice, the snorkeling is wonderful and the island is breathtaking.

but don’t be cheap and take the super long route – you’ll end up on a random ‘bus’ for an hour, sitting beside a chicken on an ancient coal burning ferry inhaling the fumes and then on a rickety boat for another hour. Basically an entire day lost on travelling to go a measley 100 miles. All to save literally, like 10 bucks US. At the time I was poor and backpacking and thought it to be a wise thing to do. Clearly my university education did not teach me about opportunity costs.

Take the speedy boat, its totally worth your time to actually spend that extra bit of day there.

The gilli islands are AMAZING. So quiet – no cars, not a whole lot of people.

oh but watch out for the donkey poo. that’s the transportation

No cars, no motorbikes, no police.

Just surfing, snorkeling, diving, white sand beaches, crystal clear blue waters, friendly people and a hellava good time.

I’d go back in a heartbeat.
