Life

My grammy lived on National Road in southern Ohio for about 15 years. A few years ago, we moved her up by our house. She is getting older, and it gave us peace of mind for her to be close to family. The area was really beautiful. There were a lot of historical and interesting places. I miss it.

Why I want to go to this place

Despite all my anti-car tendencies, I love a good oldfashioned American Road Trip. Here’s a map of where it used to run.

From Cumberland, Maryland, to Vandalia, Illinois

This road was established in 1817, 66 feet wide for 600 miles.

Some parts of it are under US 40, others under I-70.

(On the Road with Charles Kuralt, 1985, CBS, available in paperback ISBN 0-449-13067-3)
