Both my parents were born and raised in Abadaan. This city supports a huge oil refinery, formerly the largest in the region. During the Shah’s regime Abadaan was known as the “jewel of the gulf”. In 1980 Saddam Hussein focused on Abadaan as one of the major points for his military campaign against Iran. The city was reduced to rubble after 8 years of war. Today this coastline city is still well known for its refinery and oil shipping/production aswell its extreme weather though very little else.
