Worth visiting!
Desert Studies Center
At the end of Zzyzx Road is the Desert Studies Center. There are natural history classes offered through California Universities taught there. I’ve taken several.

Not worth visiting!
The last time I went to this place
Had to wait nearly an hour here for road service on the way back from a trip to San Francisco. I can think of no other reason to stop here, except to photograph the sign.

actually...
I’ll be going to the research center this weekend with a Geology Field Trip class that I am taking at one of the local community colleges. I understand that it is a great opportunity to learn some interesting facts about the Geology of the Mojave Desert and I look forward to the experience.

desert lovers
this is an exit off the 15 freeway from los angeles to vegas near the town of baker which has the worlds tallest thermometer or so they say because it gets very hot there over a hundred degrees on a regular basis home of the famous bun boy restaurant , but this exit is just before you get there and if you drive down the long dirt road which is your only option you will come to a desert research center whih is run by cal state fullerton which is a state college in fullerton california in orange county where the tv show the oc is filmed, they bring students out there to do research on the desert and if you like the desert this is an interesting area very remote and interesting landsape with the large dried up lake bed right next to the center,if you decide to go visit in the spring not the summer months to hot and winters can be cold
