I visited St. Sophia’s a few days after arriving in Kyiv…
It was a stormy Sunday—the sky was troubled grey and filled with unbelievable-looking clouds. We climbed up the bell tower and looked out to an amazing view of the city, cloudy skies included. It was…shocking. I didn’t expect Kyiv to be so beautiful. An up-top view of the city completely opens your eyes to its beauty.

This church is painted vivid blue with classic Russian/Ukranian domes adorned in Gold. Just outside the gate though is a small memorial to a tragedy in Ukraine’s history. In 1932-33 Stalin was forcing collectivization on Russia and its territories which caused wide spread famine in Ukraine. An estimated six to seven million Ukranians died as a result.

Very worth the cost to go inside, I wish I purchased a pass to take pictures, because it was beautiful
