Why I recommend this place to visitors
Elgin is perfect for visiting Whisky distilleries!
Very central, in the heart of the Speyside Whisky region, Elgin itself is well worth a visit. The people I have met there were all extremely friendly and helpful, happily explaining things to us tourists, and pointing out the things to do and things to see.
Glen Grant Distillery is nearby. The Whisky – when young, as it is sold by the distillery itself – is dreadful. It needs time. Lots of it. But the garden (!) is well worth the trip. Modelled after african countryside (without the lions) it has lush vegetation, and the stream from which the water used in Whisky production is taken runs through it. If you make it to the very end (and top) of the garden, you’re rewarded with a dram from the “safe”. If you so desire, you can add water, directly taken from the stream.
