Wallowa Lake

A beautiful lake, decent camp sites, a tram up to the top of Mt. Howard, wildlife watching – deer come into the campground to eat whatever people offer right at dinnertime each evening. The area has some sad history of the Nez Perce and Chief Joseph, but their history before then is interesting and the region is gorgeous.

It’s the perfect mix of nature and civilization.

It’s a beautiful place for people to go who have children because there is tons to do.

Use the tram to get quickly up to the high country surrounding the lake. Then backpack to any of the hundreds of lakes in the Eagle Cap wilderness. Chill. You’ll be reluctant to re-join the hordes down in Joseph.
