Heavy Metal Themed Burger Bar by MFM
People were spilling out the door and I snuck in around crowds at the bar and found 1 seat at the end. Sometimes it pays to be a party of 1 when it is standing room only.
The place is tiny – capacity of 42 according to a sign at the bar, with an open kitchen and loud music pumping all the way to the tin ceiling. The bartender was nice, friendly and helpful and gave me tastes of beer so I could order something local – I went with the Two Brothers Brewing Company Cane and Ebel Red Ale.
I was having a great time people watching, listening to conversations around me and chatting with people at the bar so I didn’t even get to read the book I brought. The real bummer about eating alone at a place like this is that I wanted to try SEVERAL things on the menu but only had so much room.
Even though I wanted to try the appetizer sliders and the blue cheese fries and the littlenecks and the make your own mac and cheese, I really was there to try one of the 25 metal band named burgers – how to choose?? My original plan was to get the Kuma Burger – bacon, cheddar and a fried egg – classic – but then I saw that they had added 3 new burgers. My final choice was the Earthride – a doom metal band from Maryland (according to the all mighty Wikipedia) and one of the best burgers EVER. It came on a soft pretzel roll (WHY don’t we have these in New England?) and topped with – gulp – I hate to even tell you – red onion marmalade, bacon jam, canadian bacon, pancetta, bacon and yes – I added cheddar. It was hot and sweet and crunchy and smooth and dripped down my arm – scrumptious. They give you fries with the burger but for $2 extra you can have the wonderful house salad – a massive pile of lettuce, onion, tomato and cukes with a fresh and excellent basil vinagrette.
